I want to portray the sometimes harsh reality of childhood in pillows made of glass and wool. Glass denotes hardness but is still a fragile material. Children are a vulnerable group who can be hard hit by certain circumstances. By using felt made from wool I want to represent a sense of security and warmth, two conditions which are so vital for a child. I have made the felt from Merino wool because it is so soft that it is used for baby clothes. The bed represents security, safety and rest.

The work reflects my childhood in the Ukraine. I come from a family with a background in texltiles and fabric, thread and needleas lay scattered around the whole house. Fabric can be folded, pulled and sretched into all sorts of shapes and forms with great ease. For me glass is the carrier of memories. Through my objects I want to transpose a movement and experience into matter. A handkerchief casually tossed to the ground refers to smells from the past, acting as a metaphor of time and process.
You move on in your life and the handkerchief remains where it fell
